About Us

The Plaquemines Gazette is published weekly by Plaquemines Newspaper Publishing, Inc., in Belle Chasse and focuses on printing news about the parish and its residents. It serves as the official journal of Plaquemines Parish and has been published since 1929. The publication is a member of the Louisiana Press Association and the National Newspaper Association.

The newspaper currently is owned and operated by Dale Benoit and Norris Babin, who began publishing The Plaquemines Watchman in 1981 as an alternative to the Gazette. In 1985, the pair bought the Gazette. For the next 20 years, both newspapers were published weekly in the parish.

However, following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, publication of The Plaquemines Watchman was suspended for seven months. It since has returned as a free publication, mailed to all parish residents. The Gazette quickly resumed publication following the hurricane – and continues to be published weekly as a valuable source of news and information.

The newspaper offices are located at 7962 Hwy. 23 in Belle Chasse.
