Movies at Christmas Time

I don't know about you, but I'm a real movie bu_. I have always really liked going to the movies. My love for the big screen started all the way back to the 1940s where every Saturday morning I was at the local theater watching Hopalong Cassidy, Gene Autry, the Lone Ranger, and a host of Disney cartoons. My fascination with the biggest screen has not wavered. I’ll pass on the various tv movie streaming services if there is a st-rate m showing on the big screen.

As we approach the Christmas holiday and the half way point of the school year, it is important to re_ect on the fun festivities that have taken place so far this year at BCE. _e st event to re_ect on is Trunk or Treat which took place on October 26. What I liked most was the helicopter and e truck on display as well as seeing her teachers dressed up and passing out lots of CANDY!! It is so much fun to see all of your friends in costumes. Some of the student costumes were really cute!

Every week brings new gardening questions, and this seemed like a good one to pass along to everyone in the area since many gardeners have at least one citrus tree out in the yard. If they’re lucky, there’s some fruit on it ripe or about to be ripe in spite of the summer’s heat and drought. Our extended forecast through the holidays looks like we will be enjoying warmer than usual temperatures, but we all know that a cold front can sweep down out of the northeast at any time, bringing frost to our area. Usually this happens in the st weeks of January, so it’s good to be prepared.

Qualifying Period for March 23 Election Comes to a Close

_e quali ation period for the upcoming March 23, 2024 election ocially ended on December 15. _is means that the candidates in races for Justice of the Peace Ward 4, the Democratic and Republican State Central Committee seats, Democratic and Republican Parish Executive Committee seats, and Democratic, Republican, and Independent Presidential Nominees have been ocially set. In these races, residents should keep in mind that onl y registered members of the respective parties can vote in their respective races.

PPSB Appoints Shelley Ritz as New School Superintendent

_e Plaquemines Parish School Board (PPSB) has ocially appointed a new superintendent just a month after former superintendent Denis Rousselle announced his retirement. Once board members had gone through a lengthy interview and deliberation process at a December 19 special meeting, board members voted Shelley Ritz to be the superintendent going forward.

Belle Chasse Tunnel Closed as Southbound Lanes of New Bridge Opens

_e old Belle Chasse Tunnel has been permanently closed as the southbound lanes of LA Hwy 23 as two lanes one the new Belle Chasse Toll Bridge ocially opened to trac on Wednesday, December 20. Initially constructed and opened all the way back in 1956—when Plaquemines Parish was mly within the political grip of Leander Perez—the Belle Chasse tunnel has served as the primary entrance to Plaquemines for 67 years.

Blue Angels Visit Naval Air Station to Prep for 2024 Air Show

Preparations for the March 2024 New Orleans Air Show Held at the Belle Chasse Naval Air Station are already underway. On December 18, representatives from the Blue Angels— a Navy _ight demonstration squadron that was formed in 1946—_ew into the naval air station for a “site visit” in order to make sure everything was safe on the runway and begin coordinating with the base for the event itself.
