SPES Recognizes Students for First Nine Weeks Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance

A total of 37 students were recognized at South Plaquemines Elementary Honor Roll Ceremony on Friday, November 10, 2023. Students were given a pin and certificate for their academic achievement. The following four students were recognized as recipients of the all A Honor Roll: Brayden Landry, Chloe Parker, Lexus Tran, and Zoe Mareno. In addition, the following students were recognized as recipients of the AB Honor Roll: Alexa Barthelemy, Khi Black, Landon Butler, Sophia Pulido, Milan Mackey, Yari Marston, Aaron Sylve, Joshua Terrebonne, Landon Caddell (not pictured), Alyia Cogburn, Shawnee Jackson, Ivett Morales, Wade Nguyen, Makayla Ragas, Jonquel St. Ann, Treasure Taylor, Jaxon Volk, Jy'len Williams, Brielle Barthelemy, Aisley Brown, Sa'Mi Parker, Jackson St. Ann, Daunte Turner, Cailey Ancar, Keegan Hampton, Collin Mackey, Joelle Ancar, Wyatt Benoit, Keyvondrick Booker, Haleigh Hayden, Harper Hayden, Geleah Martin, and Kynsli Tyler. We had five students who were recognized for perfect attendance as well: Jaysonna Reddick, Brayden Landry, Jaxon Volk, Aisley Brown, and Ridley Vo. Congratulations to all honorees for working hard and for being recognized for academic excellence.

PPSB Prepares to Interview Superintendent Candidates

e Plaquemines Parish School Board (PPSB) is nearing the completion of its search for a new permanent superintendent since former superintendent Denis Rousselle stepped down from his position to focus on his health earlier in 2023. e board will be holding a public interview process for superintendent applicants on Tuesday, December Detake 19, at 4 p.m. in the multiple purpose building located in Belle Chasse Primary School.

Nearly Two Months After Approval, Port Expropriations Remain Unled in Court

proved Back in the October 12 Plaquemines Port Harbor & Terminal District (PPHTD) meeting, commissioners approved two ordinances to expropriate property known as the “piano keys” for port development. However, at time of press, neither of these expropriations have been filed in the 25th Judicial District Court (JDC). Beyond just basic statements explaining that the expropriations are in the process of preparing to be filed and that “pending litigation takes time,” port officials had little to say on the matter.

Plaquemines Precincts Adjusted to Meet State Guidelines, Qualifying Period for March 23, 2024 Election Approaching

Clerk of Court Kim Turlich-Vaughan has provided information on recent updates to Plaquemines Parish precincts and upcoming qualifying period for the March 23, 2024 elections. ose who wish to be candidates in the March 23, 2024 election will have the opportunity to qualify for it on December 13, 14, and 15. Candidates must declare their candidacy through the Plaquemines Clerk of Court’s O e located at 301 Main Street in Belle Chasse or at the Pointe a la Hache Courthouse.

Rivera Re_ects on Her Year as the 2022 Orange Queen

I had an amazing past two years serving as royalty for the Plaquemines Parish Fair and Orange Festival. In 2021, my dream came true being crowned as the Teen Orange Queen with goals to better my community and promote Plaquemines Parish and our citrus industry. I decided that I would then compete for the Orange Queen title after having an incredible year and knowing that I wanted to continue spreading my love and passion for what Plaquemines Parish has to o_er. I had so many out of the box ideas that I knew would get the community engaged in the festival that I talked about in my interview
