Riley and Matte Plead

The Plaquemines Parish District Attorney’s Office reports that on Tuesday, February 20, at the start of the jury trials of 68-year-old Ray Riley from Sunrise, and 42-year-old Christopher J. Matte from Belle Chasse, both defendants changed their pleas to guilty.

Governor Landry Changes Rules Around ITEP Process

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry signed an executive order on February 21 that limits the amount of requirements needed for companies to qualify for the Industrial Tax Exemption Program (ITEP) and also establishes a local board for parishes to vote on ITEP applications.

Ferry Service Tolls Temporarily Suspended

At the February 22 Plaquemines Port Harbor & Terminal District (PPHTD) meeting, commissioners approved an ordinance, introduced by district 1 commissioner Tyronne Edwards, to eliminate the ferry tolls in Belle Chasse until the Pointe a La Hache Ferry is back in service. The ordinance passed by a 6-2-1 vote.

PPG O_cials Discuss Possible Shift in How CPRA Views Diversion Project

At the February 22 Plaquemines Parish council meeting, parish president Keith Hinkley and council members discussed a potentially major positive turn in how the Coastal Protection & Restoration Authority (CPRA) may view the diversion project being built in the parish. While nothing is set in stone at this point— and Hinkley admitted that many of the answers the parish government has received have been vague—the new CPRA leadership appears willing to work with the parish on the diversion issue.
