Louisiana Attorney General (AG) and candidate in the upcoming gubernatorial election Jeff Landry came down to Plaquemines Parish for a discussion on the future of the seafood industry event held on March 29 in the Belle Chasse Auditorium. Though the meeting was highly anticipated by those concerned with the local fishing industry (especially commercial fishermen), many left feeling confused and somewhat disappointed by the time it ended.

A special council meeting was held in January for the governing authority to appoint a new Registrar of Voters (ROV) for Plaquemines Parish. Out of three candidates, Debra Rhodes was named the Registrar of Voters. For the past 12 years, her roles consisted of Administration Coordinator, Condential Assistant and Chief Deputy. Immediately after being appointed, Rhodes named Colleen Barthelemy as the Chief Deputy. Barthelemy has served part-time and full-time in the o_ce for nine years, holding the title of Administration Coordinator. _e third member of the ROV team is Joan Jimcoily who was recently hired for the o_ce but has served for many years as an early voting commissioner. Both ladies were sworn in and ready to move the o_ce forward with technology and the years of experience they have.

Preserving our memories, or the memories of others, for future generations could be as important to others as your great grandparent’s memories could have been to you.
Lambda _eta Chapter Members Leave Padua House with Warmed Hearts After Donation of Blankets

The local Lambda Theta Chapter, including Yvonne Bezmalinovic of Jesuit Bend, Linelle Domingue of Jesuit Bend, Cathy Glavina of Metairie, and Desiree Dubroc Miller of LaPlace, conduct several service projects throughout the year. This past holiday season the chapter hosted the Beta Sigma Phi International West Bank City Council Christmas Party. Members were asked to bring a new throw blanket or two, to be donated to residents of Padua House. The Padua House, part of the Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans, is a residential program for those with intellectual disabilities who are medically fragile from birth to the age of 99. Having collected 30 blankets, their generosity showed.
