Parish third graders to learn Safety Around Water
This spring the Belle Chasse YMCA, with the help of Phillips 66, will provide every third grader in Plaquemines Parish the opportunity to participate in the YMCA’s Safety Around Water program.
During this program, students will participate in dry land activities that teach them pool rules and water safety. After their lesson, students take a field trip to the YMCA pool to practice basic safety and swimming skills in the water. The program focuses on building students’ confidence in the water while teaching basic swim skills and water safety skills.
“The Belle Chasse YMCA is thrilled to collaborate with Phillips 66 for the Safety Around Water program for a second year,” said Rachael Jonas, Association Aquatics Director of YMCA of Greater New Orleans. “The Belle Chasse YMCA is dedicated to educating the children of Plaquemines Parish about saving themselves if they are ever in trouble in the water, as well as basic swimming skills to allow them to safely enjoy their time in our numerous Louisiana waterways.”
