To hardcore fishermen, it’s no secret that redfish gang up in deep canals during winter. Boat fishermen have been taking limits of redfish in deep, dead-end canals for decades. However, bank fishermen are finding areas to load up on this cold-weather fishing bonanza. The side of many roadways in St. Bernard Parish are popular with bank fishermen year round. Patience and persistence usually pays off with a mixed bag of saltwater fish and crabs. Most shoreline anglers bring a chair and plan to spend the day catching something here and there and putting together a respectable catch at the end of the day.
