South Plaquemines Elementary School Faculty and Staff attend Retreat

Jasmine Merlette, a third grade teacher who alongside her students created a remix of “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X, was the keynote speaker at South Plaquemines Elementary School Faculty and Staff Retreat. Ms. Merlette, who teaches in Birmingham, Alabama appeared on the Ellen show as well as Good Morning America after her classroom remix aimed to help students with test-taking anxiety went viral and started a “movement” among fellow educators looking for creative ways to help students learn. The retreat was held at L’Auberge Hotel in Baton Rouge on July 29th-31st. The purpose of the retreat was to promote collaborative relationships, provide opportunities for the faculty to develop professionally, and set the tone for a successful school year.
