PPSO announces Employees of the Year and Quarterly Award Recipients

Sheriff Gerald A. Turlich Jr. is honored and proud to announce the recipients of the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office (PPSO) Employees of the Quarter from April - June 2020 as well as the “Employees of the Year” from the 2019 – 2020 fiscal year. The quarterly award program recognizes an employee in an enforcement position and an administrative role along with a correctional employee at the Plaquemines Parish Detention Center (PPDC).

DA candidates to attend Town Hall in Buras

A Town Hall Meeting featuring all of the candidates for Plaquemines District Attorney has been rescheduled for Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. at the Buras Auditorium. The meeting was originally scheduled to take place Aug. 25 but was rescheduled due to Hurricane Laura and Tropical Storm Marco. Due to distancing protocols, capacity for the meeting including audience, speakers and staff will be 50 people.

Plaquemines Parish Schools teachers took to the street ahead of the Aug. 15 election, which featured six millage renewals for the school district totalling approximately $20 million per year.

Council honors Curley and Harvey

Council honors Curley and Harvey

The Plaquemines Parish Council issued two proclamations at its Aug. 13 meeting honoring two members of a prominent Plaquemines family who recently passed away. The council declared Aug. 13 as Germaine Ballay Curley Day and Aug. 14 as Kenneth Harvey Day in the parish. Curley was the parish’s first woman elected to the parish council. Harvey was a longtime employee of the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office.

DA and staff hold ribbon cutting for new offices

Plaquemines Parish District Attorney Charles Ballay, holding scissors, and his staff gathered Friday morning to cut the ribbon on their new offices at the Plaquemines Governmental Complex on F. Edward Hebert Blvd. in Belle Chasse. The DA's staff has been settling into the newly renovated offices over the past month. Under state law, the local government is responsible for furnishing office space to the District Attorney's Office. The building is the first permanent setting provided for the office since a fire destroyed the parish courthouse in Pointe a la Hache in 2002.
