The January 14 Plaquemines Port Harbor & Terminal District meeting—the first meeting of 2021—saw port administration exchange verbal blows with port commissioners over the archeological findings on a tract of land where the proposed 200-acre Tallgrass Energy “Plaquemines Liquids Terminal” would be built.
On Dec. 28, Plaquemines Parish Clerk of Court Kim Turlich Vaughan swore in Judge Davey Naquin as Justice of the Peace - Ward 6, and Debra Naquin as Constable - Ward 6.
Marla Cooper of Venice was sworn in as Constable of the Justice of the Peace - Ward 5 on December 22 by Brenda Hymes (Justice of the Peace - Ward 9). The swearing-in was held at the Government Building in Port Sulphur. Cooper said she looks forward to working with the Justices of the Peace and Constables of Plaquemines Parish. Marjorie Delahoussaye recently celebrated her 91st birthday on December 9. She still enjoys gardening, cooking, baking, walking in her backyard and reading. Marjorie also enjoys watching football, basketball, bowling, cooking shows and country music specials. She makes the best fudge ever. She is loved by many.
A joint investigation between the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation and the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office led to the arrest of 33 year old Belle Chasse resident Bradley Kiff on charges of “child pornography and video voyeurism” on Wednesday, December 16.

Mrs. Stephanie Nguyen is the EL paraeducator primarily for BVES, but she has a close relationship and services all Plaquemines Parish Schools translating and working with students. She has been with the school system since 1997. She is also lovingly known as Ms. Kim. Mrs. Stephanie is a huge asset to the school and system and provides interventions, tutoring and homework assistance to not just English Language Learners, but all students. Ms. Stephanie was excited to be named Support Staff of the Year. She was surprised!
After 9 days in post runoff election for District Attorney limbo, where challenger Leo Pallazo refused to concede to incumbent Charles Ballay, claiming Ballay’s “historically small margin” of victory and “numerous [reports of] voting irregularities” meant the results were illegitimate, Palazzo finally pulled back. Meaning, by an official margin of 15 votes, Ballay will remain the Plaquemines DA for the next 6 years. This will be Ballay’s third term as DA.
