BC Ferry inspection expected this week
The Pride of Plaquemines could be back in action soon.
Plaquemines Director of Public Service Todd Eppley reported last week that the boat, which ferries cars and pedestrians from Belle Chasse to Scarsdale, was due back in the water late last week for sea trials. Contingent upon those results, a mandatory Coast Guard inspection of the Pride is expected this week. If the Pride passes that inspection it will return to service.
A release from Plaquemines Parish Government stated that the parish has reached out to the state Department of Transportation & Development about short term replacement options but was told no alternate ferries are available. PPG has a third ferry, the Belle Chasse II, which is also expected to return this month from an intensive Coast Guard inspection that must be performed every five years.
The Pointe a la Hache Ferry continues to run on its regular schedule.
