Last Thursday, the U.S. Senate passed the bipartisan, comprehensive Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act (HFIA), with a strong vote of 67-32. It must now be passed in the House of Representatives. Friday, the White House announced that President Barack Obama will sign the bill when it reaches his desk. The bill will delay the most pernicious provisions of the 2012 Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act and ensure that FEMA’s flood maps are accurate and reliable.
