Clement replaces Conner as judge in Williams v. Barnett & PPG
Contract attorney Robert Barnett asked the 25th Judicial District Court for an ad hoc judge to preside over the suit brought against him by former Plaquemines Director of Public Works Byron Williams. Instead, Barnett just got stuck with a different 25th JDC judge.
Barnett submitted a motion July 3 asking that 25th JDC Division A Judge Kevin Conner be recused and that an ad hoc judge be assigned to the suit in which Williams is suing Barnett, former Parish Presidents Ed Theriot and Amos Cormier III and six members of the former Parish Council for malicious prosecution. Barnett listed statements made in court by Conner, which were subsequently reported in The Gazette, as evidence that Conner “demonstrate(d) a bias towards Barnett, and an indication that the court has made up its mind as to Barnett’s culpability.”
