It appears the third time was the charm for former council member and educator Amos Cormier, Jr. After unsuccessful bids for the parish’s top position in 2006 and 2010, Cormier was officially voted into the office of Parish President on December 6. At his victory celebration, Cormier talked of a new way forward for the parish, one that would prize unity after a particularly divisive election. “We want to make this parish the way it used to be, one big family,” Cormier said. “We want everybody to be unified and heading in the same direction in the parish.” Cormier went on to present what he hopes will be the guiding values of his administration: hard work, helping others, setting high goals and constantly changing.
