Council member proposes 5 p.m. start for meetings
If the Plaquemines Parish Council adjusted its meeting schedule to allow more citizens to attend, would citizens respond?
That’s a question the council could take up at its Dec. 12 meeting after District 9 council member Mark “Hobbo” Cognevich introduced a resolution at the Nov. 14 meeting to move the Port Commission and Parish Council meetings from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month.
“Before I became a council member, I couldn’t go to meetings because I wasn’t going to take off work to go,” said Cognevich of the rationale behind his resolution. “I want to give the public a chance to come to the meetings where they wouldn’t have to take off from work.”
