DA Candidates Argue over New Office Building, Term Limits at "Virtual" Debate
The four candidates running for District Attorney in Plaquemines “debated” one another on Friday, October 2 at an event held by Plaquemines Parish Debates (PP Debates). Due to COVID-19 pandemic precautions, the debate had no in person attendance and was, instead, live streamed so people could watch from home. Residents who had questions for the candidates were still able to get them answered as PP Debates was accepting question submissions from the public in the weeks leading up to this virtual debate.
At the debate, District Attorney incumbent Charles Ballay faced off against his three challengers: Gibby Andry, Leo Palazzo, and Terry Sercovich.
While everything was setup as a typical debate, with candidates standing behind podiums and answering questions posed to them by a moderator, the lack of an audience changed the dynamic of this debate. Candidates were able to run through the general talking points of their campaign with very little push back from the moderator or even other candidates.
