Despite Proposed Millage, Council Adopts “User Fee” to Fund Mosquito Control
Though there is a proposed millage to fund the Mosquito Control Department in Plaquemines on the December 5 election ballot, the Plaquemines Parish council voted to adopt a “user fee” that would also be used to fund mosquito control at the November 12 council meeting.
There was confusion about the necessity of this ordinance—and some heated opposition from people in the audience—with the millage on the December 5 ballot, but the ordinance ended up passing 5-2 with one abstention from district 1 council member John Barthlelemy Jr. (district 2 council member Beau Black was not present at the meeting).
Council members who voted in favor were district 9’s Mark “Hobbo” Cognevich, district 8’s Richie Blink, district 6’s Trudy Newberry, district 4’s Dr. Stuart Guey Jr., and district 3’s Corey Arbourgh.
