Expectations lowered for Boothville-Venice Community Center
Plans for the Boothville-Venice Community Center are getting smaller and smaller.
The parish has approximately $5 million in a fund to replace the former community center, which was demolished last year after being deemed structurally deficient shortly after its construction. The money from the resulting lawsuits and settlements will fund a new center, but nothing like the one FEMA-funded facility that had to be torn down.
District 9 Plaquemines Parish Council member Mark “Hobbo” Cognevich said March 8 that the building certainly won’t be elevated on columns like the last center. He’s waiting for word from FEMA on whether the center can be built on an elevated mound or even the flat ground.
