Fort Jackson featured on fi rst Stephen Ambrose New Orleans tour

Ft. Jackson isn’t on the National Park Service’s Register of Historic Places, but that didn’t stop a big group of history buff s from fi nding their way to southern Plaquemines Parish last week. Stephen Ambrose Historical Tours brought a crowd of 47 tourists and 10 historians from across the country to the pre-Civil War era fort in Buras Feb. 27. She said Stephen Ambrose Tours, named for the UNO professor who wrote the book Band of Brothers about an American military unit fi ghting in World War II and founded the D-Day Museum, which became the World War II Museum, usually hosts tours through Europe. But because Ambrose was a local and the New Orleans area has contributed so much to American history,
