Should the Plaquemines Parish Council support Champions Park on F. Edward Hebert Blvd.? That was the question asked in last week’s edition of the Plaquemines Gazette. Results are 56% of individuals responded YES, the Council should support construction of the destination travel park for teams 12 and under. While 44% percent of the respondents said NO, the park should not be constructed due to concerns expressed by the Woodlands Conservancy. The land is owned by Plaquemines Parish, and the Conservancy has managed trails on the approximately 600- acre property under a series of ordinances and a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement (CEA), but doesn’t have any jurisdiction over the property. The most recent CEA between the parish and the Conservancy was signed in 2012, but appears to have expired in 2014.
