Head of Couvillion Group describes capping 15-year-old oil spill

The head of a Belle Chasse company that capped a 15-year-old oil spill 12 miles off Plaquemines’ coast earlier this year may have convinced the Parish Council to seek legal recourse against the owners of the offending wells.

Tim Couvillion of the Couvillion Group addressed the parish council at its June 13 meeting to describe how his company designed and fabricated a custom-made dome to cover multiple Taylor Energy wells which have leaked thousands of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico—with some inevitably being swept into Plaquemines wetlands via ocean currents—since 2004.
