Legislature provides funds for Port firefighters
Legislation authored by Rep. Chris Leopold, R-Belle Chasse, has secured state funding to supplement the salaries of firefighters employed by the Plaquemines Port Harbor & Terminal District.
Leopold’s House Bill 87, which was co-sponsored by Sen. Sharon Hewitt, R-Slidell, and Sen. Troy Carter, D-New Orleans, became Act 95 when signed into law by Gov. John Bel Edwards.
It provides the same level of supplemental pay for fully trained fire protection officers employed by the port authority as similar firefighters and law enforcement officers receive.
