Management group makes bid for Port Eads contract
A contender to run Port Eads has emerged. And a second option may not be far behind.
A group calling itself Port Eads Facility Management LLC offered its pitch to the Plaquemines Parish Council April 11 during the council’s meeting in Belle Chasse. The group consists of Director Tony Bruce and Board President David Gaines of Zachary, charter captains and Associate Directors Scott Pelas and Walter Heathcock of Empire, and a fully fleshed administrative staff.
Bruce and Gaines did most of the talking for the group, explaining how PEFM envisions making Port Eads more accessible and affordable to Plaquemines citizens and families in addition to the well-funded fishing expeditions the South Pass camp is known for. The group also plans to court military veterans, offering a retreat for soldiers coping with PTSD and injuries.
