Move to rename Recreation position draws fire
During the March 14 Plaquemines Parish Council meeting, the three second-term council members returned to the political bickering that defined the previous council lineup. At the March 28 meeting, some new players entered the game.
Carlton LaFrance left his 24-year spot on the Plaquemines School Board in January when he began his first term as parish council member for District 7. On the school board, LaFrance was the board member who gruffly demanded to know how much everything will cost, but never found a reason in recent years to lecture or admonish his fellow board members or his superintendent. But during his sixth parish council meeting, LaFrance lit in to Council Chair Beau Black and sent a shot at Parish President Kirk Lepine in the process.
Black proposed an ordinance at Lepine’s request to change Director of Recreation Tony Henry’s job title to associate director and change the chain of command to have Henry to report to Public Service Director Todd Eppley instead of Lepine. Henry’s salary and job description would remain the same.
