One O&G suit returning to Plaq, others may follow

A federal judge sent a single lawsuit filed against oil and gas companies in Plaquemines Parish back to 25th Judicial District Court last week. The move could start a trend of federal judges returning a raft of similar suits to their home parishes.

On May 28 U.S. District Judge Martin Feldman remanded a suit filed by the Plaquemines Parish Government over the Potash Oil and Gas Field back to the 25th JDC where it was originally filed. The suit is one of 21 filed by Plaquemines in 2013 and one of 42 filed by six parishes. The suits have moved back and forth from state courts to federal courts in New Orleans and Lafayette multiple times as attorneys for the parishes battle attorneys for the oil and gas industry over which judges should hear the cases.
