Parish crime rate down

Crime rates in Plaquemines Parish continue their downward trend. The Sherriff’s office reports that crime fell by nearly 10 percent in the parish over the first half of 2014, when compared to last year. Property crimes fell dramatically throughout the parish, decreasing by approximately 15 percent. Reported thefts dropped from 163 in the first half of 2013 to 133 in the same time frame this year, a decrease of 18 percent. Burglary dropped by 13 percent, from 44 reported instances in the first six months of 2013 to 38 reported this year. Overall, only one statistical area saw an increase in Plaquemines Parish. Auto theft shot up by 400 percent.
