Phoenix teacher killed in latest crash on Highway 39
The death of a Phoenix High School teacher has drawn fresh attention to an old hazard along Highway 39 on Plaquemines’ east bank.
As of press time Aug. 30, Louisiana State Police had not released any updates on its investigation into what caused Vondria Paloade, 47, of Slidell, to lose control of her 2006 Pontiac G6 shortly before 7 a.m. north of Woodlawn before swerving into oncoming traffic. Paloade’s car entered the northbound lane and struck a 2019 Jeep Cherokee driven by Cassandra Reddick, 46, of Braithwaite. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, but Paloade suffered fatal injuries while Reddick escaped with minor injuries.
