Plaquemines Parish Sherriff Lonnie Greco revealed the details of a six-month long undercover narcotics operation at a press conference on September 19. Dubbed “Operation Crackdown” because
of the initial investigation’s focus on crack cocaine sales. The sting netted 20 defendants for charges ranging from illegal firearm possession and prostitution to selling or attempting to sell crack cocaine, marijuana, oxycodone, alprazolam and tizanidine. Greco says that the investigation began in February on the strength of observations made by PPSO deputies. The resulting operation netted a half-pound of cocaine, 18 pounds of marijuana or synthetic marijuana, several doses of oxycodone, alprazolam and tizanidine, 12 firearms, $9,500 in cash, various computer equipment and one vehicle.
