Pointe a la Hache Ferry, parish buses running for east bank pedestrians
The Pointe a la Hache Ferry is pedestrian-only for the time being and a Community Action Agency bus is shuttling riders from the ferry landing to west bank locations and back again.
That was the word last week from Plaquemines Parish Government administration in the wake of the Department of Transportation and Development closing the ferry to cars July 28. A dilapidated timber that supports the east bank ramp was deemed unfit to safely bear the weight of vehicles.
Both the ferry service and the bus are free to riders. Pedestrians have to get to and from the east bank ferry landing on their own, but once they cross to the west bank, a bus will make regular stops to shuttle them to Fremin’s Food Market, Plaquemines Medical Center, Regions Bank, Mississippi River Bank and Ace Hardware in Port Sulphur.
