Port set to Provide Funding to Ferry Department in 2021
The Plaquemines Parish Council acting in its role as the Plaquemines Parish Port Harbor & Terminal District voted to take $1.5 million out of the port’s budget in order to fund the parish’s Ferry Department—which had been completely defunded in the Plaquemines Parish Government’s 2021 proposed budget—at the November 17 port budget hearing.
Similarly to PPG, and everyone else living through the Covid-19 pandemic, the port has suffered a general decline in revenues for the 2020 year and expects more of the same in 2021. This has led the port to cautiously implement restrictions on projected expenditures to make up for this loss.
“This projects a decrease in operating revenues to arrive from tariffs in 2021 due to the effects of Covid-19,” Executive Director of the Plaquemines Port Sandy Sanders said. “[But we] expect the 2021 fiscal year to be a continued success.”
