President, council sworn in
From the benediction to the speeches, “unity” continued its run as the top goal and stated priority for the new Plaquemines Parish Government as the president and council members were sworn in Jan. 2 at the Council Chambers in Belle Chasse.
A contentious two years under previous President Amos Cormier III, a period rife with lawsuits and shouting matches, created the expectation of enmity between the council and president. In his first remarks as the parish’s chief executive officer, President Kirk Lepine spoke to the 48 percent of voters who supported Cormier in the December runoff election.
