Senate passes Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability bill

The U.S. Senate approved a bill that would keep homeowners in Plaquemines and the nation from incurring potentially devastating insurance rate increases as a result of the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012. The bill passed the House of Representatives on March 4 and was approved by a 72-22 vote in the Senate on March 13. As of this story’s writing Friday afternoon, President Barack Obama has not signed the bill into law, though White House spokespeople have indicated that the president plans to sign it.
