Sercovich announces his candidacy for District Attorney

On November 3, 2020, we have an opportunity to elect a new District Attorney for Plaquemines Parish. In these troubling times we are presently going through, we need to look for our future leaders who have a record of service. Terry W Sercovich has a record of service and wants to be your next District Attorney. Sercovich is a lifelong resident of Plaquemines Parish, growing up in Ostrica, graduating High School at Buras and presently living in Jesuit Bend. He is married to Rachel Sercovich and between them they have five children and five grandchildren, with two more on the way. He has been a commercial fisherman, Coast Guard licensed boat captain, oil field worker, United States Coast Guard Petty Officer, sheriff’s deputy and lawyer. In his 33 years as a lawyer, 18 years were spent with the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office with four different sheriffs. He worked full time for the Sheriff’s Office clos A vital resoing his private practice down. He is a post certified police officer since 1994 and a retired veteran of the United States Coast Guard with two tours of duty to the Middle East (Operation Southern Watch and Operation Iraqi Freedom). He is a proud member of American Legion Post 329 and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).

With his 18 years working for the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office, Sercovich will be the first District Attorney, to his knowledge, with law enforcement experience. He just recently resigned from the Sheriff’s Office to run for District Attorney after serving eight years under Sheriff Turlich and former Sheriff Greco (served 10 years under former Sheriff Hingle). His direct knowledge of the Sheriff’s Office Administration and deputies will benefit both the District Attorney’s Office and Sheriff’s Office which will allow for a better “team” atmosphere between the two.

We are fortunate to live in a parish where our crime rate is low compared to our neighboring parishes. The programs within the District Attorney’s Office will be enhanced along with the District Attorney’s Office taking a more proactive approach to the crime problem in Plaquemines, especially in the areas of drug abuse and mental health.
