James Chauff III was arrested April 16 and charged with simple battery for allegedly attacking a Plaquemines Parish Health Department code enforcement officer.
The code enforcement officer, listed in the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office arrest report as Candace Beatty, was photographing Chauff’s property at 311 Bayou Road southwest of Belle Chasse around 9:45 a.m. on April 16 when Chauff approached her. Beatty told responding PPSO deputies that Chauff accused her of trespassing on his property and that Beatty claimed she was on a neighboring property. Beatty said Chauff rushed her and bowled her over, then stood over her yelling that he was “recording” Beatty. She claims she crawled away and a neighbor who was sitting on his porch heard Beatty yelling and came to her aid.
