Veterans enjoy weekend of fishing in Venice

By Alex Galbraith
Over 50 veterans were on hand for the 5th annual Wounded War Heroes fishing rodeo at Cypress Cove marina in Venice from August 21-23. The event is the latest in a long line of outdoor events hosted by WWH, a charity that provides military veterans who were wounded while serving with free hunting and fishing trips. The charity’s founder Emeric Watson says he came up with the idea after attending a hunting event in Mississippi. A veteran named Michael Savoie overheard Watson talking about fishing trips and asked Watson how much it would cost to stage a weekend of fishing for 20 veterans in Southeast Louisiana. Watson stayed up all night trying to figure out a way to help Savoie.
