After several recent columns about my relationship with Jerry Lee Lewis, several readers have written to ask what I found so appealing about living in Ferriday, Louisiana. I think it’s more the slower pace of living in a rural area.

Obre Williams Named MVP

Pictured is 7-year-old Obre Williams, son of Jace and Lacey Williams of Port Sulphur. Obre played for the DTR Cardinals, a 5 & 6-year old team of the Plaquemines Parish Recreation Department. The DTR Cardinals were undefeated all season and won the 2022 championship. Obre had multiple tackles and made around 20 touchdowns this season. Obre’s dedication and hard work paid off and he was named MVP (most valuable player) of the game. Obre is very athletic and holds a bright future!

Outgoing School Board Members Recognized at December 5 Meeting

December 5, 2022 marked the final meeting for four outgoing Plaquemines Parish School Board Members. Members Wayne Meyers (District 5), Joyce Lamkin (District 4), Daniel Morrill (District 2) and Fran Bayhi-Martinez (District 6) were recognized at their final meeting for Exemplary Service to Public Education.

State Secures Land for Diversion

The State of Louisiana, through the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA), has paid for the rights to purchase about 500 acres of land near Myrtle Grove where the proposed Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion will be located. Tallgrass Energy was paid $36 million for the site. The sale took place last week just before the Gazette's early holiday deadline. Look for complete details in next week's paper.
