Plaquemines Parish residents are about to have the opportunity to hear the November 2022 election candidates for council and parish president speak and debate important issues for the first time since election campaigning began earlier this summer.

In addition to voting on new Plaquemines Parish School Board members, council members, and parish president during the November 8 election, residents will have the opportunity to vote on eight proposed constitutional amendments. On Wednesday, September 28, the Public Affairs Research Council (PAR) for Louisiana published their “2022 Guide to Constitutional Amendments,” listing exactly what the amendments being proposed were and how they could affect residents.

Though Halloween is still a month away, this weekend I noticed that several of the local garden centers and my grocery had beautiful displays of pumpkins and gourds out for decorating. Gone are the days of the basic jack-o-lantern! The diversity of gourd and pumpkin cultivars being offered this year is pretty amazing and includes a lot of heirloom varieties that are great not just for decorations but for culinary uses as well.

Woodland Conservancy’s Hike-aon Kicks O 2with a Picnic in the Park

Woodlands Conservancy's 2022 Hike-A-Thon is presented by Couvillion Marine Services and sponsored by Power System Specialists and WWNO. The Hike-a-Thon is an annual effort to raise funds and awareness for local land conservation. “I think we are all getting a little tired of our daily rains and sweltering heat and looking forward to cooler October weather, “said Woodlands Conservancy Executive Director Katie Brasted. “What could be better than taking a break in nature that gives back to the community?” Woodlands Conservancy’s 2022 Hike-a-Thon challenges participants to hike a marathon, 26.2 miles during the month of October. The Kick-off for the event, “Picnic in the Park” is being held on Saturday, October 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and features a guided hike at 9:30 a.m. to the WWII Ammunition Magazines followed by picnic fair in the “Meadow” at Woodlands Preserve.

USACE Seeks Public Comment on Neptune Pass Flow Control Structure

The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is looking for public comments on a proposed “flow control feature within Neptune Pass, a newly enlarged pass on the east bank of the Mississippi River across from Buras in Plaquemines Parish.” The comment period officially began on September 16 and will last for 30 days until October 16.
