Rotary District Governor Visits Plaquemines South Rotary Club

Regina Scotto Wedig, 2022-2023 Governor of Rotary District 6840, made her official visit to the Plaquemines South Rotary Club on August 22. Wedig spoke about her theme for 2022-2023 which is 'Imagine Rotary.' She also discussed her initiatives for the District and the District-sponsored events for the year, including the MidWinter Conference in January and the District Convention held in Hattiesburg next April.

More issues with maintenance of Plaquemines Parish infrastructure surfaced at the August 25 meeting of the Plaquemines Parish Government (PPG) council. This time, resident of Braithwaite on the Eastbank Keslyn Williams appeared before the council toward the end of the August 25 meeting to express concern over the condition of the east Pointe a la Hache marina where he docks his boat.

Port Votes to Pursue Judgment on SP Contract, Possibly Halting Terminal Project

The conflict within the Plaquemines Port Harbor & Terminal District (PPHTD) over the nature of a contract with Sustainability Partners—the company financing the railway extension project necessary for the planned container terminal development— has officially become unresolvable through the typical political means. One side, led by district 5 commissioner Benny Rousselle, firmly believes the contract amounts to public debt while the other, led by executive director Sandy Sanders and the private companies involved in the project, hold that the contract avoids that definition due to certain exceptions written into the contract.
