Venture Global's Plaquemines LNG construction site is buzzing with activity as work continues on the $10 billion project. While the company remains tight-lipped about their endeavors and declined to comment on the progress, speculation is that several hundred construction workers are on site and that number will top 1,000 by the end of the year. At the peak of construction, workers will number in the thousands. Delta Marina Attracts Crowds of Residents to Empire for Two Community Events

On Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25, Plaquemines Parish residents traveled down to the Delta Marina in Empire to partake in a series of local events and enjoy the hot summer weather. As the sun was going down on the evening of Friday, June 24, contestants in the Delta Marina “2022 Bullfrog Bash” went into the bayou to catch as many bullfrogs as they could.

“Women Soldiers of the Civil War” Topic of July 5 Meeting

Shelby Harriel, an instructor at Pearl River Junior College and recognized expert on female soldiers that fought in the Civil War, will be the speaker at the Tuesday, July 5 Plaquemines Historical Association meeting. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Belle Chasse American Legion Hall, 104 Hunt Street.

Jurisich Announces Candidacy for Parish Council District 8

Plaquemines native and longtime advocate for the oyster industry Mitch Jurisich has announced his candidacy for the District 8 seat on the Plaquemines Parish Council. Jurisich, age 58, is a third generation oyster farmer and commercial fisherman, growing up in Empire and currently residing in Homeplace.
