It’s official… Venture Global is building Plaquemines LNG and the associated pipelines needed to supply the behemoth facility near Myrtle Grove. In recent months, non-stop activity at the construction site, a flurry of news releases announcing global longterm contracts, and the trickling of permit approvals, gave little doubt the facility would be built, however the Final Investment Decision (FID) announcement was the bow on the package Plaquemines political and business leaders were waiting for.

Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Returns

After canceling the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sheriff Jerry Turlich and the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office (PPSO) were excited to resume the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics by visiting seven Plaquemines Parish schools. Along with raising awareness and sharing support with the youth of our community, PPSO raised over $2,000 for the Louisiana Special Olympics. Special thanks to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and Kenner Police Department for joining and providing transportation.

• The Northwestern State University chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta recently welcomed Molly Adams of Belle Chasse as a new member at the annual induction ceremony. Alpha Lambda Delta recognizes the best and brightest members of the nation’s first-year college students. Students in Alpha Lambda Delta must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 after their first semester of full-time enrollment at Northwestern State.

PPOF Makes Donation to Belle Chasse Garden Club

Bridge Construction to Continue Throughout Summer

According to information provided to The Plaquemines Gazette from Public Information Officer for Belle Chasse Bridge and Tunnel Replacement Project Leatrice Dupre, construction on either side of the Greater Intercoastal Waterway (GIWW) is set to take place over the summer. This construction will have an impact on traffic.

CPRA Announces Passage of 2023 Annual Plan

On May 26, the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) announced the Louisiana Legislature's unanimous approval of the Fiscal Year 2023 Annual Plan. The plan outlines a $1.35 billion investment toward 142 active projects across South Louisiana.
