Highway 23 Resurfacing Project to Start in May

The Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development is set to begin a LA-23 Highway “repaving project” that will cover nearly 2.8 miles of LA 23 from Barriere Road to Apricot Street. Based on comments made by parish president Kirk Lepine at the April 14 council meeting, the project was supposed to begin on April 18.

McCarty and Tabony Honored at MS River Bank Retirement Ceremony

It was a homecoming of sorts for founders and board members of Mississippi River Bank at a retirement ceremony honoring Charles L. McCarty, the bank’s original Chairman. Also honored was retiring Vice-Chairman Lawrence M. Tabony who served in the role for 40 years. Both men reached the mandatory retirement age for directors set by the bank in 2017. McCarty turned 95 in August of 2021 and is the last of the original 10 founders of the bank. He served as Chairman 40 years and has been Chairman Emeritus for 2 years. McCarty also chaired a committee with Bank President Lisa Works in 1992 to design the employee bonus and shareholder profit sharing plan-which has been extremely successful. Tabony turned 80 in October of 2021 and was Chairman of the Audit and Compensation committees for many years. Board members, former board members, senior managers and family members of deceased board members were also in attendance including Patty Lynn McCarty, Sarintha Buras, Anthony Buras Jr., Bonnie Wall & Lou Bankston, Dot Lundin, John Tabony, Michael & Debbie Bush, Marilyn & Judge Robert Lobrano, Betty Bubrig, Robert & Joni Gravolet, Richard & Kathy Roper, Lisa & Mark Works, George Pivach II, Christina & Michael O’Connor and Ernie & Janet Mueller.

Three Fishermen Cited for Illegal Oyster Harvest in Plaquemines

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited three fishermen for alleged oyster violations on April 9 in Plaquemines Parish. Agents cited My Ngoc Nguyen, 52, Rudy Estrada, 28, of Buras, and Tito Mudoz, 30, of Houma, for unlawfully removing oysters from a private lease and failing to have written permission.

Belle Chasse Man Cited for Commercial Oyster Violations

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a Belle Chasse man for alleged oyster violations on April 13 in Plaquemines Parish. Agents cited Shane Shelley, 38, for improperly filling out oyster tags, violation of the state’s sanitation code as it pertains to keeping adequate records on sight with the oysters, failure to maintain trip tickets and adulterating and misbranding seafood.
