Calling residents of St. Bernard and Plaquemines parishes with a passion for gardening! The 2022 LSU AgCenter Louisiana Master Gardener program will be hosting a class this year to kick off the Downriver Master Gardener group. This training will be limited to only to residents of St. Bernard and Plaquemines parishes to further encourage leadership and the spread of research-based horticultural information within our communities. If you’ve been interested in starting a community or school garden, a farmer’s market, or volunteering with area organizations connected to plants, this course will give you the tools and know-how to get growing. Beginners and experienced gardeners are welcome.

Railway Extension Updates Don't Live Up to Commissioners' Expectations

Commissioners for the Plaquemines Port Harbor and Terminal District heard yet another update on the controversial railway extension project at their April 14 meeting. Unlike the previous updates, which saw Chris Fetter of LA-23 Development Company—the “asset manager” of the project responsible for overseeing its development and providing these monthly updates—give very little information about the railway extension’s progress, this most recent update had more tangible progress to report.

Plaquemines 4-H Holds Annual Fishing Clinic for Parish Students

From March 24 through April 1, the Plaquemines Parish 4-H Club held its “annual fishing education clinic” for students all across the parish. According to information provided by 4-H Youth Development Extension Agent Derek Landrum, students from Phoenix High School, Boothville-Venice Elementary School, South Plaquemines Elementary School, and Belle Chasse Middle School 4-H clubs all made a trip to the Myrtle Grove Marina for the clinic.
