2022 Plaquemines Parish Special Olympics

The 2022 Plaquemines Parish Special Olympics was held on Friday, March 25, at South Plaquemines High School in Buras. There were over 170 student athletes from eight schools in the parish that were invited to attend. Participating schools included Boothville-Venice Elementary, South Plaquemines High, South Plaquemines Elementary, Phoenix High, Belle Chasse Middle, Belle Chasse Academy, Belle Chasse High and Belle Chasse Elementary.

Council Member Blink Struggles with Administration Over "Lack of Action" on Passed Legislation

At the last few Plaquemines Parish Government council meetings, district 8 council member Richie Blink has been inquiring about the progress on two pieces of legislation he passed in 2019. One resolution, adopted in May 2019, authorized the administration to “institute a public notification system to notify the public of closures and openings of the flood gates in the parish;” the other piece of legislation, an ordinance adopted in August 2019, authorized the administration to remove the Empire Shipyard sheet pile wall.

President of Croatian American Society John Tesvich Set to Step Down from Position in April

President of the Croatian American Society John Tesvich has been heavily involved with the organization since its inception over 30 years ago. Working alongside other Croatian residents of Plaquemines Parish, Tesvich has seen CAS grow from a small, local group into an established organization known throughout the country. His dedication and passion for the group was recognized by others, and in June 2013, Tesvich was made CAS president. But in a letter sent out on April 3, Tesvich announced he would be stepping down from his position.

PPG Breaks Ground on Jesuit Bend Levee Lift Project

On Thursday, April 7, Plaquemines Parish President Kirk Lepine alongside district 5 council member Benny Rousselle, district 6 council member Trudy Newberry, and officials within the administration gathered on the Jesuit Bend levee to hold an official groundbreaking on the levee lift project.

March 23, 2022 Stacie Demoe, 28, Marrero: 2 fugitive warrants, possession of drug paraphernalia. Reeva Lynn Parker, 37, Buras: vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated (second offense), reckless operation of a vehicle, failure to use safety belts, open container, when lights lamps required.

Three Cited for Illegal Oyster Harvest in Plaquemines Parish

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited three subjects for alleged oyster violations on March 25 in Plaquemines Parish. Agents cited Lien Thi Truong, 71, Vivilio Velasquez, 28, and Carlos Vasquz, 28, all of Port Sulphur, for unlawfully removing oysters from a private lease and failing to have written permission.
