Council Battles Over Redistricting Despite a District Plan Already Being Approved at a Previous Meeting

Even though the Plaquemines Parish Council adopted a redistricting plan at a previous meeting, tensions around the issue erupted again at the March 10 meeting. There was no shortage of hostility between council members as they discussed district 2 council member Beau Black’s ordinance that would implement an alternative redistricting plan. Black was not in attendance when the council voted on the adopted redistricting plan, but had the alternate plan introduced.

Durr Recognized for Commitment to Port as He Enters Retirement

The March 10 Plaquemines Port Harbor & Terminal (PPHTD) District meeting saw both the administration and commissioners saying one final goodbye to a longtime employee as he heads into retirement. Director of PPHTD’s securities and vessels department Donald Durr retired in December 2021 after 35 years of service to PPHTD.

State Legislature Approves Redistricting Plans, But Governor Edwards Vetoes Congressional Plan

As the Plaquemines Parish Government wraps up redistricting after a contentious process, the Louisiana state government appears to have nearly completed its own redistricting process— with new district plans for both the state house of representatives and senate being passed by each respective governing body. However, it should be noted that each plan could still be vetoed by Governor John Bel Edwards until March 14 if he wished. Should Governor Edwards choose not to sign or veto the plans by then, they will be put into law without his signature.

The Olympics are over, and Putin has made his move. He recognized the eastern areas as independent republics, then sent in troops as “peacekeepers” (if you wish to believe that!) to occupy the area. Following that he launched an overt military attack on Ukraine itself. His goal here is not clear. Is his purpose to destroy the Ukrainian military so it could not respond? Or are his intentions far more sinister…the occupation and control of Ukraine itself?
