Major Property Insurance Rates on the Rise in Louisiana!

News reports across the state this past week reported that flood insurance rates in Louisiana will rise more than 129 percent over the next decade with many policyholders seeing an increase of more than four times what they are currently paying. Two years ago, Congress merely put its finger in the flood insurance dike with legislation that supposedly capped the skyrocketing rates of property owners in flood prone areas. But what our minions in Washington didn’t tell us is that the rates are continuing to climb dramatically.

It’s February and time to fertilize our citrus trees to give them a boost before blooming this spring. Hopefully your trees are pruned up and in good shape after my column last week. Citrus trees are known for being “heavy feeders,” meaning they have relatively high nutrient requirements to thrive and be resilient compared to some other crops. Trees of course don’t eat fertilizer, but rather take it up from the surrounding soil through root hairs, which flow into feeder roots, and up into the tree to be utilized in growth processes, photosynthesis, and fruit production.

2023 Louisiana Duck Stamp Contest Rules Announced

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) has announced the rules and timeframe for the 2023 Louisiana Waterfowl Conservation Stamp, or Louisiana Duck Stamp, competition. “Bufflehead will be the featured species in this year’s competition,” said Jason Olszak, LDWF’s Waterfowl Program Manager.
