Plaquemines Schools Re-Open at Varied Times Due to Wide Range of Impacts from Ida

Much like Plaquemines Parish itself, the condition of the Plaquemines school district’s infrastructure following Hurricane Ida varied by region. While superintendent Denis Rousselle noted there was at least some damage to every school throughout the district, certain schools—such as Belle Chasse High School—escaped with minimal impacts when compared to schools in the southern end of the parish.

Government Assistance to Ironton, Other Heavily Impacted Communities Still Uncertain

It has now been over three weeks since Hurricane Ida hit Plaquemines Parish on August 29, and, finally, power and water services have returned to most of lower Plaquemines, according to parish president Kirk Lepine. But despite the general progression of Plaquemines through the recovery process, there are still lingering issues throughout the parish. Many rural, less populated areas of Plaquemines continue to struggle against the more intense impacts from Ida.

Eastbank receives Hurricane Ida relief supplies from NC

A group of residents from the Eastbank organized a supply giveaway at the Scarsdale ferry landing for the community on Saturday, September 11 and it was a huge success. Some of the supplies handed out were toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, personal care items, bleach, water and many other supplies. The residents also were treated to some hot jambalaya and BBQ. The community would like to thank the wonderful and awesome people of Fayetteville, North Carolina for being so generous in this difficult time. Also, they would like to thank the volunteers from the community for their help as well. More photos on page 12.
