A group of residents from the Eastbank organized a supply giveaway at the Scarsdale ferry landing for the community on Saturday, September 11 and it was a huge success. Some of the supplies handed out were toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, personal care items, bleach, water and many other supplies. The residents also were treated to some hot jambalaya and BBQ. The community would like to thank the wonderful and awesome people of Fayetteville, North Carolina for being so generous in this difficult time. Also, they would like to thank the volunteers from the community for their help as well. More photos on page 12.

Hurricane Ida blew into the area and blew the Orange Teen Queen and Orange Queen selections for the 75th Plaquemines Parish Fair & Orange Festival right off the September calendar. The Queen and Teen Queen selections were originally slated for Sept.

Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon directed insurers Tuesday to pay policyholders’ expenses for evacuating from Hurricane Ida as damaged infrastructure and dangerous living conditions in Southeast Louisiana continue to keep people from returning home.

Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX) announced last week it made a commitment of $3 million to support relief and recovery efforts underway in the communities affected by Hurricane Ida. “Chevron is fully committed to helping our community recover from the impacts of Hurricane Ida,” said Charles Barber, operations manager of Chevron’s Oronite plant in Belle Chasse, Louisiana.

Sheriff Gerald A. Turlich, Jr. announced on Friday, Sept. 10, that the nightly curfew on the Eastbank of Plaquemines Parish has been lifted, but the dusk to dawn curfew remains in effect from Phillips 66 Alliance Refinery south to Venice on the Westbank was still in effect as of press time on Sept. 10.
