Audrey “Big Mama” Phillips-Avist

Audrey “Big Mama” Phillips-Avist left to be with her precious Lord on August 23, 2018 at the age of 79. She was born on January 23, 1939. Audrey dedicated her life to Jesus at an early age and was an active member at Beacon Light International Baptist Cathedral. Mrs. Phillips-Avist was an educator with Plaquemines and Orleans Parish school boards for most of her adult life. Audrey was very caring and loving. She continued to provide for others through the care of adult patients. Audrey leaves to cherish her love and memories her five children: Shelia Avist-Magee, Sharon, Shawn, Raymond and Warren Avist; her four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Audrey is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Avist, Sr., her mother Clara S. Phillips and son Therman W. Avist. Relatives, friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Beacon Light International Baptist Cathedral at New Orleans, Franklin Avenue Baptist, The Church At New Orleans, employees of International High School of New Orleans, Catholic Charities (N.O. Archdiocese) and The Hilton Riverside attended the visitation and funeral service at Beacon Light International Baptist Cathedral of New Orleans, 1937 Mirabeau Avenue, on Friday, August 31, 2018. Interment followed at St. Louis Cemetery #3, New Orleans, LA.
