Headlines across Louisiana blared out in recent weeks that automobile insurance rates in the state will see a huge increase. State Farm, whose rate request was rubber stamped by the Department of Insurance, will increase its rates by an average of 17.3 percent. Progressive Insurance Company will increase just over 10 percent while Allstate will jump up 18 percent, GEICO by more than 19 percent and, get this, USAA will increase its rates by nearly 34 percent.

A little over 2 weeks ago, on August 6, a bar and restaurant on the east bank of Plaquemines Parish known as B & V Blue Room was destroyed in a _re. bar and the family who run it have a major historic connection to the east bank community stretching back into the early part of the 20th century. ugh, in the past, the family has been able to withstand numerous disasters that have befallen the parish (including Hurricane Katrina) and reopen their business, this _re represents a new challenge that may force them to close B & V Blue Room’s doors for good.
