Industrial Tax Exemption Program (ITEP) For many years, industrial tax exemptions, which provide companies with tax breaks for making investments in the state, were handled in Baton Rouge. Board of Industry and Commerce granted the exemptions with little or no input from the local taxing bodies which stood to lose the tax revenues being exempted.

Is this never going to end? Both left and right wingers continue to lash out with charges filled with rumors and innuendo on issues that seem pretty reasonable to me. I don’t know about you, but I’m getting sick and tired of politicians, and some columnists in the news media stirring up controversy that goes beyond what reasonable people believe.

School Board Adopts New ITEP Policy

At the July 31 Plaquemines Parish School Board meeting voted on a proposed set of new policies on how to address applications for the Industrial Tax Exemption Program (ITEP). After an explanation from district 3 school board member Niko Tesvich and brief discussion, the school board unanimously approved the new set of policies.

Faux Pas Rodeo Holds 25th Annual Event in Venice

From July 27 through July 29, the Faux Pas Lodge Invitational Fishing Rodeo returned to the Venice Marina for its 25th year of operation. Attendants, those wishing to participate in the fishing competitions, and those just looking for a family friendly activity traveled to Plaquemines Parish from all over the state of Louisiana—and even the Gulf Coast—for the fishing event.

Plaquemines School System Continues Success on LEAP Exams

The Louisiana Department of Education released the results of the Louisiana Education Assessment Program (LEAP) on Wednesday, August 2, and, as usual, the Plaquemines Parish school district earned high marks. However, according to comments from superintendent Denis Rousselle, the numbers were even more impressive than previous years. Based on the numbers from the LEAP tests, what the school district’s students were able to accomplish is the following:
